ADAM MUNNINGS

FOUNDER, INDIGENOUS LAWYER

Adam Munnings is Anishnaabe from Curve Lake First Nation, and has been a lawyer practicing in boutique Indigenous law firms since 2010. Adam has acted as general counsel for Indigenous communities and their organizations in various matters, including economic development, specific claims, reserve land management, employment, governance, accommodation of Aboriginal rights, and negotiations and agreements with government and industry. In June 2015, he completed his MBA in Aboriginal Business and Leadership at Simon Fraser University to better support his clients’ business needs.

He currently serves as Chair of the Vancouver Native Health Society and as a Canadian Bar Association British Columbia (CBABC) Provincial Council member. He has also served as Chair of the CBABC Aboriginal Lawyers Forum, Chair of North Shore Restorative Justice Society and President of the Aboriginal Housing Management Association.

He has written articles, presented at professional education courses and served as a guest lecturer at the University of British Columbia Faculty of Law for their First Nations and Economic Development Course.

Adam has recently started fly fishing, hunting and powerlifting; he enjoys the outdoors, camping and finding time for travel.

Darrin Mah

Darrin Mah joined Munnings Law in 2018 as an Articled Student after completing his Juris Doctor degree at the Peter A. Allard School of Law. He was admitted to the British Columbia Bar in 2019. During law school, Darrin was a member of the Indigenous Law Students Association and organized a 3-day cultural excursion in the traditional territory of the Tsleil Waututh First Nation and was selected for the 2018 Kawaskimhon Aboriginal Rights Moot team to represent UBC at the national negotiation in Montreal. Before commencing his legal education, Darrin worked at the National Consortium for Indigenous Economic Development, where he managed a program focused on advancing the knowledge of best practices, economic enablers and institutional mechanisms that foster the economic development of community and individual Aboriginal entrepreneurs. Darrin has taught business in the Northwest Aboriginal Canadian Entrepreneurs program in collaboration with the University of Victoria.

Darrin Mah currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Association of Foodservice Professionals and holds the position of Branch Chair for the CFE professional designation. Darrin served as a member of the Steering Committee for the 2019 Reconciling Ways of Knowing Forum, held by the University of Victoria and the David Suzuki Foundation to explore the intersection between reductionist scientific methodology and Indigenous traditional knowledge in application to environmental protection. Darrin enjoys touring on his motorcycle and backcountry skiing and is an accomplished chef who frequently hosts dinner parties.

Michelle Jarman

LAWYER

Michelle Jarman joined Munnings Law in the fall of 2022, working mainly on legal research and drafting in Aboriginal Law. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts from Simon Fraser University in 2002 and graduated from the University of British Columbia Faculty of Law in 2005.

Michelle was called to the British Columbia Bar in 2006 and articled and worked primarily in general practice law firms during her first years of practice, gaining experience in various areas of law. She then worked as a solicitor focused primarily on residential real estate and estate planning for several years.

LANA NIELSEN

Lana Nielsen joined Munnings Law for her articles in 2022 after obtaining her Juris Doctor and MBA degrees at the University of Calgary. She was called to the British Columbia Bar in 2023.

During law school, she assisted volunteer lawyers at the courthouse and acted as a caseworker at the on-campus law clinic. Lana has experience working in the legal departments of an energy company and a technology start-up. In her spare time, Lana enjoys trying new restaurants, practicing Spanish, and making jewelry.

MIRANDA CLARK

PARALEGAL

Miranda Clark joined the firm in 2023 as a paralegal after graduating from the paralegal diploma program at Capilano University. During her studies, she volunteered as a secretary for the board of directors of a football society based in the United Kingdom. Miranda is a passionate soccer player who competed at St. Francis Xavier’s varsity level.
